Calling All Zombies - Post #99

Well this is it.  Last post before the conclusion of my epic 99 Followers Challenge.  At the moment, it looks like it's going to be an epic fail.  If so, we all lose.  I was heartened this morning to see a jump up to 83 followers over the weekend.  I've pretty much been unplugged, with monumental events unfolding in my real life.  But imagine my disappointment when I logged on a few hours later and, alas, I lost another one.   I don't even know who, so I can't even belittle them publicly.  So be it.

Lesson learned while watching Parks and Recreation - Screw it.  Be happy with what you've got.

What I've got is a very exciting future I have hinted at in recent posts.  Either no one has picked up on it, or no one cares to ask.  And by the way - What the hell?  I thought I came up with some pretty good lies in my last post and only two people bothered to guess which one was true.  Am I that uninteresting?

Ugh!

I'm ranting I know, but let me get it out.  My stress level went way up over the weekend.  Thank goodness for cathedral ceilings.  Getting stuck in Columbia all day Thursday didn't help.  Then, a very important meeting Saturday kept getting delayed.  The end result though, all is well.  All is better than well.  All is fantastic.  Despite the general tone of the previous paragraphs, I am a very happy bird.

While not the best part, it may be the one that interests most of my readers.  I have a new idea.  Woke up with it Thursday morning.

Zombies.

I'm really not sure how popular zombies are these days.  Certainly vampires have to be on the way out, right?  So what's next?  Lots of people write about angels, or fairies, or is it faeries?  I don't know.  All I have is a character.  No story yet, but lots of ideas.  So, while Skully the Pirate has yet to be completely revised, and Sister Very Pretty waits patiently at the convent, I must now flesh out the brains of the recently deceased with a rather ironic name.  And yes, I meant to write flesh.

I'm still following you, so it wasn't me. I know how it feels to be close to 100. For some reason I really crave those 3 digits.

Zombies are awesome and an ironic name, you must share.

I think you're behind the trend line on zombies -- unless you write really fast! If you haven't read World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War you should definitely check it out.

Patti - Thanks for sticking around. I think I've figured out who it was. I wish them well. Really. I've got to hold on to my zombie's name for a bit. At least until I know her a little better.

Travener - You think the boat has sailed, huh? Oh well. I'm not writing for trends. I'm writing for me. I was just curious. If I fail because my writing sucks, I can live with it. If I fail because of some numbers thing, that will suck. I might want to move over to your blog then.

Zombies are awesome. You can't go wrong with a feast of flesh, IMO.

Re: followers--don't get too caught up in who you have and who you don't, or who comments and who doesn't. Just do your thing and the rest follows. :-) And remember to get out there and visit blogs and comment--that's a sure fire way to create a more frequent audience.

Thanks Angela - I was hoping you would chime in, since you changed your avatar.

I haven't figured out the whole following thing yet. I'm pretty new to the blogging world. But I can unofficially follow :) I learned about your blog on AW.

As for the next trend in fiction, I hope is morally loose, underachieving college kids, because that's all I seem to be able write.

I'm sticking with ya. You're funny, informative and there's a picture of a cupcake on your page.

Kirsten - Glad you're here, however invisible you may be.

Amy - Thank you. Cupcakes are good. Very, very good.

I *just* discovered your blog (thanks to "Cruising Altitude") and am enjoying myself. :) If vampires are any indication I don't think there is a saturation point in the market for Zombies. Although, imo, vampires SHOULD have been played out about two years ago. Sick of them. Zombies, on the other hand, intrigue me! Brains! Spicy brains!!!

Oh, Kimberlyloomis thank you. I've got some fun ideas for brainfood.

wasn't me.

i do, however, think you may need to re-title your blog. there is nothing pensive about ranting.

(and i quite prefer the ranting to things which are pensive.)

Do you tweet? I can get you some followers in no time!!!

You can name a character after me. I've been voted Most Likely to Survive a Zombie Apocalypse:D

I blogged about you and your followers. Did it work? :)

Yeah...don't get too caught up in the numbers game. Keep posting the good stuff and they will come...(If you build it, they will come) Heeeheee!

Amber - I always know when you're here. Loud and clear.

Tinalynn - It must be all that time you spend with ghosts

Tiffany - Something worked. Numbers are skyrocketing in the last day or two. I'm starting to worry I might make it and have to pay up.

My grandma once promised to take the whole family on a cruise for her 90th birthday. I have a rather large family. Would have been an expensive gift. She got out of it by dying about 7 months early.

I'm still here too...I think. Testing 1...2...3? :)

Zombies have been done quite a bit in the movies...but I don't know about literature. The fact that I don't know is a good sign.

MC Howe said...

Erica - Yay for zombies too. I'm thinking of some fun.

tz - Too bad I can't find a shamrock shake around these parts. That may be a good thing. I've been reading how they're different this year. Not at all good. Thanks for coming over.

Just wanted to let you know that I posted a snippet (the very beginning) of ELISABETH, written in second person, on my blog today. :-)

Stephanie - Cool. Maybe I'll learn something.
